Rajendra Dhawan was born in 1936. He joined the Delhi College of Art in 1953. In 1960, he joined the Belgrade Institute of Art in Yugoslavia.

His solo exhibitions were held at AIFACS, New Delhi (1964); Gallery Horn, Luxembourg (1973); Gallery Phillippe Bouakia, Paris (1994); Bodhi Art Gallery, New Delhi, Mumbai, Singapore (2005). He also participated in group exhibitions in India and abroad.

His work is part of art collections in India and France, notably National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi and National Foundation of Contemporary Art, Paris.

The artist passed away in 2012.
