Jayashree Chakravarty was born in Tripura in 1956. She completed her education in fine arts from Kala Bhavan, Viswa Bharati, Santiniketan. She went to pursue a postgraduate diploma in fine arts from the MS University of Baroda. Later, she moved to France.

The artist has showcased her work both in India and abroad. In 1988, she received the Second Bharat Bhavan Biennale Award and the Gujarat Lalit Kala Ademi Award.

The contemporary Indian artist lives and works in Kolkata.
