Suhas Roy was born in present-day Bangladesh in 1936. He completed his education from the Indian College of Arts and Draftsmanship. Later, he went to Paris to pursue a course in graphic art. He joined two institutions in Paris, Lecole Superiecure Des Beaux Arts and École des Beaux-Arts, to study murals.
Later in his life, he became the principal of the Indian College of Arts and Draftmanship. He also taught painting at Kala Bhavan, Santiniketan. He took part in numerous exhibitions in India and abroad, including Exposition Des Arts etogere bousiers des, France; Third Triennale, India and 7th International Biennale Exhibition of Prints in Japan.
In 2015, the Government of West Bengal honoured him with the Lifetime Achievement Award. The distinguished artist passed away in 2016.
